Retaining wall and railings
In order to stop the eastern side of the house / drive / carport sliding into the stream, we need to have a retaining wall. At the moment it will be about 3,80m high, with a base about 2,00m under the drive / carport and the main section running about 12,00m long.
It looks like a lot of concrete and steel. The person on the left seems to be walking off in disgust.

Developers zoom in on highly desirable area
In the Darmstädter Echo today (pp 17), the developers from Vierte Animus from Darmstadt unvieled their plans for the "Keyser und Seibert" nursery. It is just across the stream from our building site in Roßdorf.

They want to build some pretty smart villas in a style matching our house. The whole thing should be in a park-style landscape. Let's see how it gets on making its way through the planning process.

Cellar roof nears completion
Just before the rain and snow is due to arrive today, the builder have almost finished the cellar roof.
I hope the men walking about in the concrete manage to get out of there before it sets.

Soggy spoil heap
At least the mystery of the red cables is solved.
After talking with the electrical contractor (selected last Friday) and looking in the daylight, I can confirm that they are the hollow pipes/cables which will carry the electric cabling proper.
The headache now is the spoil heap. The builders have decided that the soil is no good for back-filling around the cellar because it has gotten wet. But it was their cunning idea to store it next door over the Winter (and I paid them for that). Now they would like to be paid to move the soil away and then paid again to bring in some nice dry soil. Pah. Emergency negotiations at the site tomorrow at 08:30.
